FestiValle returns to Vilanova de Arousa with a fifth edition filled with cultural activities

One of the must-see events in Vilanova de Arousa is the FestiValle Theatre Festival. This event will celebrate its fifth edition between 6 and 10 July, at the Valle-Inclán Auditorium and other venues. So, if you like culture in general and the figure of Valle-Inclán in particular, you cannot miss the opportunity to attend its extensive programme of activities and, whilst you’re at it, learn more about our destination.

The event was launched at the Valle-Inclán House-Museum and was attended by the mayor of Vilanova, Gonzalo Durán; the provincial deputy and Councillor for Culture, Javier Tourís; the Director-General for Culture, Anxo Lorenzo; the president of the Friends of Valle-Inclán Association, José María Paz Gago; and the festival’s artistic director, José Luis Méndez Romeu. The mayor highlighted the importance of this cultural programme, which puts the municipality on the national cultural map.

Extensive programme

One of the main new aspects of the 5th FestiValle will be the addition of new events to the programme compared to previous editions. Theatre performances will be combined with other activities such as a poetry recital, a film screening and a summer course.

The latter, entitled ‘Valle-Inclán in the Classroom’, will take place in the church of A Pastoriza, in the capital of the municipality. The sessions will take place between 7 and 10 July from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm.

The main part of the 5th FestiValle will take place at the Valle-Inclán Auditorium with the theatre performances. These will take place at 8.00 pm. Tickets can be purchased via the website www.ataquilla.com

The performances will kick off on Monday 6 July with the play La cabeza del Bautista – created by the father of the Esperpento style – performed by the Tribueñe theatre company. The same company will return to the stage of the Valle-Inclán Auditorium, where on Tuesday 7 July they will perform Federico García Lorca’s Bodas de Sangre. On Wednesday 8 July, it will be the turn of Alejandro Sawa’s play entitled Noche, staged by the Micomicón theatre company.

Complementary proposals

At the same time, on the same day at 1.30 pm, a poetry recital entitled Claves líricas will take place in the gardens of the Valle-Inclán House-Museum. The event will be led by Manuel Franco.

Continuing with the complementary events, the programme for the 5th FestiValle will bring the showing of the film Tirano Banderas to Vilanova de Arousa. Admission is free, subject to availability.

This event is being held to mark the centenary of the novel’s publication. The 1993 film, directed by Luis García Sánchez and starring Ana Belén—who last Friday received the Mari Gaila Award from the Friends of Valle-Inclán Association for this role—will be screened. The film also features Gina María Volonté, Fernando Guillén, Juan Diego and Javier Gurruchaga.

Organised by the Association of Friends of Valle-Inclán, the 5th FestiValle is possible thanks to the support of the Regional Ministry of Culture, Language and Youth; Vilanova de Arousa Town Council; and Pontevedra Provincial Council.
