The mayor of Vilanova de Arousa, Gonzalo Durán Hermida, has just presented the Vilanova Tourism brand. ‘Our Town Council is now gaining more weight with this brand and its own website, which is of impressive quality.’ This represents a ‘qualitative leap as a tourist destination’, showcasing the wide range of attractions offered by the municipality, which is already established as a benchmark and attracts an increasing number of visitors every year.
In fact, there was an increase in the number of tourists between March and May. According to statistics from the Valle-Inclán House-Museum tourist office, the number of visits during this period increased by 7.41% compared to the same period in 2024, in line with previous years. This shows the growing interest that tourists have in the municipality of Vilanova.
Precisely for this reason, and in the words of the deputy mayor, Javier Tourís, ‘it was necessary to take this quantitative and qualitative leap in Vilanova de Arousa, as we have been recording increases in the number of tourists for some years now. This is unstoppable,’ he said.
To point out the sector, the Vilanova Turismo brand was created with the support of the Galician Tourism Agency. Regarding the brand image itself, Gonzalo Durán highlighted how the main attributes of the territory were merged. ‘The V of Vilanova, which is made up of mussel shells and shaped like a heart, together with the slogan “A sea of life”, connect perfectly with our Mar de Santiago and also with the Sea Routes,’ he explained. This fusion of concepts gives rise to a high-quality tourism brand with which they hope to project Vilanova de Arousa beyond its borders.
Own Tourism Website
During this morning’s presentation, the website www.vilanova.travel was unveiled. Available in three languages – Galician, Spanish and English – it features a modern design, user-friendly navigation and is accessible on different mobile devices. Similarly, Vilanova Tourism has specific profiles on two of the main social networks (Instagram and Facebook), where content about the destination has begun to be shared.
In the case of the website, the councillor indicated that the main section, A Sea of Life, includes basic information about the municipality, its attributes and history. The main tourist attractions of Vilanova de Arousa, called Nuestros esenciales (Our Essentials), are also highlighted. These include the Valle-Inclán and Hermanos Camba House Museums; the Traslatio; As Sinas beach; the Cálago tower; the Pazo Vista Real; the Cruz de Lobeira viewpoint; and wine tourism activities. For those who prefer a ready-made plan, there is also the option of consulting the suggested itineraries for those visiting Vilanova de Arousa for 1, 2 or 3 days. ‘More and more people are spending short breaks in our municipality. In the case of pilgrims, they choose our Town Hall to rest before tackling the final stage of the Camino de Santiago,’ said Durán Hermida.
The Plan section has a variety of information on how to get to the town and a list of accommodation and restaurant services. It also includes details and opening hours of the two tourist offices.
Importance of the Camino de Santiago in Vilanova
Delving deeper into Vilanova’s wide range of tourist attractions, the Experiences section stands out. Here, the various possibilities are shown: nature, culture, gastronomy, active tourism, family plans, festivals and pilgrimages, and even shopping. Special mention should be made of the Jacobean itineraries that cross the municipality, with Vilanova de Arousa being the main point of reference – with the Traslatio – both in the Spiritual Variant of the Portuguese Way, the Sea of Arousa and River Ulla Route, as well as the Sea of Santiago geodestination – highlighting its Emotional Route – and other routes such as the Father Sarmiento Route.
And to whet your appetite, there is also a specific space where various images and videos about the municipality’s attractions are shared. No less important is the Agenda section, where the cultural and leisure activities promoted by the Town Council are shared. The tourist website is completed with a blog where news of interest or activities aimed at visitors will be posted. There is also a contact form for submitting queries.
Microsites of the House-Museums
Given the importance of the Valle-Inclán and Hermanos Camba House-Museums, the Town Council has included two microsites within the Vilanova Tourism website in order to provide more information about them. In addition to information about both centres, other complementary aspects such as literary routes have been added.
