Mother’s Day in Vilanova de Arousa: Sharing Unforgettable Experiences

Do you know the best Mother’s Day gift you can give? Quality time. And for that, Vilanova de Arousa is the perfect destination to enjoy unforgettable experiences.

In the heart of the Rías Baixas, this coastal village is not only the birthplace of literary genius, but also an idyllic setting for creating family memories. Here are 5 suggestions to make your day with your mum in Vilanova de Arousa simply perfect.

  1. A Literary Tour through Valle-Inclán House Museum

If your mum is a lover of culture and history, there’s no better way to start the day than by visiting the Casa del Cuadrante. This is where the Valle-Inclán House Museum is located, the birthplace of the brilliant writer of the Generation of ’98.

Walking through its rooms is like travelling back in time. The house retains the furniture and atmosphere of the era, allowing us to imagine the childhood of the genius of the Esperpento movement. It is a leisurely, charming visit, perfect for whetting your appetite before venturing into the landscapes that inspired his works.

If the weather is favourable, don’t miss a stroll through the beautiful garden surrounding the building, which features several unique botanical specimens. Here you’ll also get a sense of the beautiful surroundings in which this writer grew up, which feature in some of his works.

2. A Bird’s Eye View from Monte Lobeira

For mums who love nature and, above all, stunning views, Monte Lobeira is a must-visit on your itinerary for Vilanova de Arousa. Just a 15-minute drive from the town centre, this spot is ideal for enjoying the great outdoors and taking some great photos.

Ruta-Monte-Lobeira

From the top of Monte Lobeira, at an altitude of around 300 metres, you can take some incredible photos of the Ría de Arousa and the Val do Salnés region. What’s more, if you enjoy hiking, there’s also the option of taking a short trail that ends at this viewpoint and passes by the Faro das Lúas on the way; another beautiful spot where you can enjoy nature and the views.

3. Wine Tourism Experience at one of our 3 Wineries

Growing in trend, wine tourism is also a brilliant way to celebrate Mother’s Day. In Vilanova de Arousa, there are three wineries offering guided tours of their production facilities.

Bear in mind that they will be probably wine tourism experience specially designed for this special occasion. Among the options usually on offer is a guided tour of the vineyards (which are coming back to life after their winter slumber), the cellars and the production areas, ending with a tasting of their wines from the Rías Baixas Designation of Origin.

Any of the three options available in our destination (Pazo Baión, Bodegas Granbazán and Gran Vinum) are a guaranteed success, as they are part of the Rías Baixas Wine Route. What better time to raise a toast than with an Albariño Rías Baixas!

    4. Menus to Suit all Tastes and Budgets

Gastronomy is an essential part of any memorable day. And in Vilanova de Arousa, we know a thing or two about this. Our destination boasts a wide variety of restaurants and bars where you can enjoy a lovely lunch, whether right by the sea, in the heart of the town centre, or in the more rural areas. There’s something to suit every taste and budget!

The one product you must try is the mussel, which gives its name to our most famous culinary celebration: Mussel and Cockle Festival in Vilanova de Arousa. So, if you can and feel like it, be sure to try these shellfish, which come straight from the mussel rafts in our Ría de Arousa.

Likewise, if you’re not keen on seafood, you can also opt for other typical local dishes, such as churrasco or raxo. Even so, be sure to sample the wide variety of flavours on offer in our restaurants.

    5. Discover the Traslatio

This list of suggestions wouldn’t be complete without a tour of the world’s only maritime-river Way of the Cross. If you have more time and set off early in the morning – provided the tides are right – you can take a boat from the Maritime Station and follow the Traslatio route.

Vilanova de Arousa is a key location on this route, which commemorates the transfer of the remains of St James the Apostle from Haffa (Palestine). This route will take you through the Mar de Santiago geodestination, of which our municipality is also a part. Along the way, you can enjoy unique and beautiful natural landscapes, as well as areas steeped in history. It’s a peaceful, unique and deeply enriching experience.

Vilanova de Arousa has that special “something” that invites you to pause and enjoy the moment. It’s a destination that welcomes visitors with its light, the scent of salt air and its warm hospitality. This year, don’t just give her a gift; treat your mum to a day full of experiences in one of the most beautiful corners of Galicia.
