4 plans for a different kind of Easter in Vilanova de Arousa

In a society where everything is against the clock, it’s no bad thing to take some time out. If you’re looking for different and relaxing experiences this Easter, in Vilanova de Arousa you can slow down and reconnect. Here, time is not measured in hours, but in tides. Immerse yourself in our sea of life and discover four plans to enjoy these holidays. Keep reading and we’ll tell you all about it!

The Way of St James among waters

One of the most unique gems you will discover in Vilanova de Arousa is the Traslatio route. This itinerary, linked to two Caminos – the spiritual variant of the Portuguese Way and the Sea of Arousa and River Ulla Route – will take you along the only maritime-fluvial Way of the Cross in the world, emulating the journey once made by the remains of St James the Apostle on their transfer from Jaffa (Palestine) to Compostela.

How can you do it? You can take a boat from the Maritime Station and travel from Vilanova de Arousa to Pontecesures. In addition to seeing the unique stone crosses at the foot of the Arousa Estuary and the Ulla River, you will have the opportunity to cross unique natural, historical and cultural spaces that define the territory of the Mar de Santiago geodestination.

To organise your trip, you must take the tides into account, as they determine the departure times of the boats. For more details, you can call any of the shipping companies that operate this route and stop at the port of Vilanova.

Exploring historic vineyards

Vilanova is sea, but it is also land… And it offers you top-quality wine tourism experiences at the three wineries located in the municipality. All of them are associated with the Rías Baixas Wine Route, which guarantees that they offer guided tours that usually end with a guided tasting of their wines, protected by the Rías Baixas Designation of Origin.

These activities must be booked in advance at any of the three wineries: Pazo Baión, Bodegas Granbazán and Adegas Gran Vinum. Check any of their websites before coming to Vilanova de Arousa as they may be organising special activities for Easter.

Don’t miss the opportunity to take a tour of the historic vineyards in the area. Spring is the ideal time for this, as the vineyards are in full bloom. You can see how they fill with beautiful leaves and colour the horizon with a blanket of green tones.

If you want to make your trip complete, don’t hesitate to book a table at one of the restaurants in our municipality. Delight your palate with the exquisite and varied typical dishes of our local cuisine.

Literary visits

If the Galician weather turns capricious, Vilanova has the best refuge: culture. The Valleinclaniana Route allows you to connect with the genius of Ramón María del Valle-Inclán, while the figure of Julio Camba adds a touch of irony and classic journalism. Visiting the places that marked their works becomes an intellectual experience that elevates any holiday getaway.

We also invite you to discover the origins of the father of Esperpento at the Valle-Inclán House-Museum. If the weather is good, don’t hesitate to stroll through the beautiful garden surrounding the Casa del Cuadrante. Here you will find a gigantic and ancient magnolia tree (Magnolia grandiflora), whose importance is reflected in the coat of arms of the Vilanova de Arousa Town Hall, together with the Torre de Cálago tower.

Nature in its purest form

One of the best ways to disconnect and reconnect is to lose yourself in nature. In Vilanova de Arousa, we also have plenty of space to achieve this goal. You can combine walks along our beaches – with the sandy shores of As Sinas and O Terrón as the main examples – with tours along our three environmental routes.

These routes allow you to enjoy the natural beauty spots of our municipality. They are easy trails that will enable you to discover not only beautiful landscapes, but also different historical, ethnographic and cultural sites. Very close to the town centre, you will find the Currás Mills Route, which runs between three restored mills located in the O Esteiro area.

Further away from the town, the Umia River Environmental Route and the Monte Lobeira Route are also noteworthy. The latter has two of the most outstanding viewpoints in the municipality: Faro das tres Lúas and Cruz de Lobeira. From both points, you can enjoy incredible panoramic views of the Arousa Estuary and the Val do Salnés area.

With everything we have to offer, are you ready to discover our destination? If you don’t have a car, don’t worry, we have a car-sharing service that will allow you to explore the surrounding area. Through the Mobilize Share app, you can rent one of the two electric cars available. You can pick it up on José González Sanisidro Street (next to the Multipurpose Pavilion).

Need more reasons? Take advantage and enjoy Easter in Vilanova de Arousa! Paradise in the heart of the Rías Baixas awaits you!
