Vilanova de Arousa
Vilanova de Arousa offers you a sea of life. An oasis of tranquillity whether you come with family, friends or on your own. Its six parishes make up a destination with the perfect combination of sea and land, well connected, and just a stone’s throw from everything.
Its 14 kilometres of beautiful beaches –with those of As Sinas and O Terrón at the head– have inspired great artists, such as Valle-Inclán, Julio and Francisco Camba or Francisco Rey Rivero. Its incredible landscapes reflect the municipal district’s magnificent location nestled in the heart of the RÃa de Arousa, outlined by the silhouettes of mussel rafts and dotted with small islets such as Areoso and islands such as Sálvora.
Several Ways of St. James converge at Vilanova, with the Traslatio route as the main singularity. Whether you travel along the Route of the Sea of Arousa and River Ulla, the Spiritual Alternative Route of the Portuguese Way, or the Padre Sarmiento Route, here you will find the perfect stopping point. At the ferry terminal you can take a boat to discover the only maritime-river Way of the Cross in the world, following the same route as the remains of the Apostle Santiago on their journey to Compostela.
A destination with an intense cultural life, featuring a wide range of activities for all ages. Music, theatre, art… fill the calendar with attractive leisure options, which are the ideal way to round off your holiday.
You will find the most intense life in Vilanova de Arousa in its sea: from a great variety of options centre on sailing tourism to delicious produce that come out of the RÃa de Arousa. You will delight your palate with exquisite recipes based on mussels, cockles and clams, which you can pair with wines of the Albariño grape variety, so deeply rooted in the area and symbolized by the traditional trellis. Do not miss the potential of our canneries, which also make up an important part of the local economy and accumulate the knowledge of several generations of salting and canning families.
