Umia River Environmental Route
An ideal route to enjoy the flora and fauna at the foot of the river. Along the way you will also come across several restored waterwheels, which were an important factor in the local economy from the 17th century onwards.
As you pass through this area you will find a setting full of natural beauty. In fact, Pontearnelas is considered one of the most beautiful sites along the Umia watercourse, in addition to As Aceñas, Pago Negro and Retortoiro.
Pay special attention to the so-called “Godfathers’ Bridge”. Its name comes from an ancient legend according to which infertile couples had to have a dinner at the entrance of this bridge in order to conceive. Also, the first man who crossed it while this rite was being performed would have to be the godfather of the future child,  who would have to be called Alberto or Alberta.
