\u00abI liked action; I liked risky ventures… As a baby, still in the babysitter’s arms, I loved to be taken down to the stables, to touch the cows\u2019 heads. I still have vivid memories of their huge, moist eyes. As soon as I was a little older, I forced myself to perform an act that seemed epic to me at the time: to pass under the horses and cows, between their legs…\u00bb<\/em><\/p>

This is how Valle-Incl\u00e1n described \u2013in an interview published in El Heraldo de Madrid <\/em>on March 13, 1926\u2013 his memories of the Casa do Cuadrante\u2019s ground floor<\/strong>. At that time, this entire area was occupied by the stables<\/strong> \u2013divided by partitions to separate the animals\u2013 and cellars<\/strong>, as well as the characteristic tools<\/strong> that were kept in a rural house of that time.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The heat that was produced in the stables<\/strong> served as heating for the house<\/strong> in winter. In order to conserve heat, the stables were ventilated by means of small open holes in the walls, called bufardas<\/em>. These vents can still be seen today on the ground floor of the building.<\/p>

Nowadays, this floor houses <\/strong>municipal administrative offices<\/strong>, a tourist office<\/strong>, a reception<\/strong> and a large exhibition room<\/strong>. You can take a tour of Valle-Incl\u00e1n\u2019s life and work of Valle-Incl\u00e1n, discovering authentic literary gems.<\/p>

The showcases feature fifty first editions of several of the writer’s works<\/strong>. These include Autumn Sonata<\/em> (1901), Summer Sonata<\/em> (1903), Spring Sonata<\/em> (1904), or the stories of Jard\u00edn Umbr\u00edo<\/em> (1903), where several references are made to the Casa do Cuadrante itself. Other of the author\u2019s outstanding publications on display are Divine Words <\/em>(1920), Bohemian Lights<\/em> (1920), which gave rise to Valle-Incl\u00e1n\u2019s particular grotesque<\/em> style, or Martes de Carnaval<\/em> (1930).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
