In the historic centre of Vilanova, where Luces de Bohemia and Priorat streets cross, you will find the imposing Casa do Cuadrante<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

This ancestral residence dates from the 16th<\/sup> century<\/strong>, although it has undergone several renovations<\/strong>. One of the last was carried out in the mid-19th<\/sup> century, converting it into a pazo<\/em>-style building or traditional \u00abtown mansion\u00bb for an upper-class family. Although the Casa do Cuadrante is the product of the annexation of elements that were added over many years, it all corresponds to a typology that is specific to the area of which it forms part.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The Casa do Cuadrante <\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

It originally belonged to the Benedictine Priory of Vilanova de Arousa and, after its properties were divided up, it was acquired by Francisco de la Pe\u00f1a Cardecid and Josefa Montenegro y Saco Bola\u00f1o, the writer’s maternal grandparents. When the Valle Pe\u00f1a family no longer lived in the town, the writer stayed in the Cuadrante whenever he returned to Vilanova de Arousa. At that time, some cousins lived there, and they kept a room for him.<\/p>

The property was inhabited until the 1990s<\/strong>, when it was practically abandoned. In 1994<\/strong>, the building was damaged by a terrible fire<\/strong>, with almost everything inside being lost. The following year, Vilanova de Arousa Town Council<\/strong>, due to its interest in keeping its memory alive, acquired the property to rehabilitate it and turn it into the Valle-Incl\u00e1n House-Museum<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Declaration of National Historic Monument<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Casa do Cuadrante<\/strong> was declared a national historic site in 1976<\/strong> by Decree 249\/1976 of January 9. The document states that it was there that Don Ram\u00f3n Jos\u00e9 Sim\u00f3n del Valle Pe\u00f1a, later known as Ram\u00f3n Mar\u00eda del Valle-Incl\u00e1n, was born on October 28, 1866.<\/p>

Jos\u00e9 Caama\u00f1o Bournacell, in Por las rutas tur\u00edsticas de Valle-Incl\u00e1n. <\/em>Gu\u00eda para conocer y caminar (Madrid, 1971),<\/em> indicates that Valle-Incl\u00e1n \u00abwas born in the main bedroom in the so-called Casa del Cuadrante, on Priorato Street where, a few days later, he was taken in the arms of his mother, Do\u00f1a Dolores Pe\u00f1a y Saco Bola\u00f1o to the \u00abCantillo\u00bb house, in the Plaza de San Mauro.\u00bb The house\u2019s importance is also evident in the writer’s work, forming part of the configuration of Valle-Incl\u00e1n aesthetics.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
